新加坡涉暴動外勞可能坐牢並鞭笞

新加坡警方將起訴二十四名印度籍外勞，指控他們參與在新加坡小印度區的暴動。如果被判有罪，他們可能得坐七年的牢，同時還要遭到鞭笞。檢方表示，需要一星期的時間進一步調查。嫌犯十七號將出庭受審。
因為這起暴動被捕的其他四人獲得保釋。涉嫌肇事的司機因為業務過失致人於死被起訴。
新加坡市中心印度族群聚集的小印度，因為八號的一起死亡車禍引發暴動。死者是一名印度籍的外勞。這起暴動有四百多名外籍勞工參與，有二十二名警察、十二名民防部隊人員和五名義警受傷。另外有五輛汽車被燒毀。這是新加坡三十多年來第一次出現暴動。
新加坡總理李顯龍下令內政部設立調查委員會徹查暴亂原因。委員會也會檢討現有外籍勞工聚集的措施。李顯龍強調這是一起獨立事件，民眾不要煽動排外情緒，抹黑所有外籍勞工。
