甘比亞宣布和我國斷交，外交部錯愕不解，不排除派遣適當層級的人選前往甘比亞，向對方高層作更直接的溝通。外交部長林永樂表示，選派前往甘比亞的人選「已經在進行」、也會儘快決定。

外交人士指出，我大使館已經和甘比亞總統府秘書長和大禮官等官員取得聯繫，但由於斷交是賈梅總統個人的決定，其中原因還有待了解。

外交人士分析，台甘兩國到近期為止的互動都很正常密切，賈梅所說的甘比亞「戰略利益」究竟為何？以及賈梅為何表示要在兩岸關係發展的過程中採取中立態度？這些說法都令人費解，需要進一步了解；同時賈梅在給馬總統的信函中提到重視兩國友誼，似乎又釋出善意，顯示這起事件似乎有轉圜空間。
